Flat Stanley Joins the Electricians

“Fire it up and let’s roll!” Flat Stanley said when he saw the electricians truck pull up in the yard next door to work on Nana and Papa’s new house.

He went out and took care of the chickens, giving them fresh water and hay and collecting the eggs.  Today he had dried mealworms and oyster shells as treats.  They do love their treats, and happy chickens make for tasty eggs!

After compiling a dozen in a leftover egg tray that friends save for us, Flat Stanley trotted next door with a swing in his step.  He was ready for adventure!

“Hi guy! I’m Flat Stanley,” he announced to the first worker man he saw in the house.

“Well hello there little man, I’m Elliot the Electrician!” he replied with a smile.

“I brought you some fresh eggs, do you need any help in here?” said Flat Stanley.

“Ohh electricity can be a very dangerous thing to work with Flat Stanley, but I’ll keep you safe and thank you for these eggs!  My family will love them.”

Flat Stanley was indeed a good worker.  He helped him tie the blue line tight into the box that Nana’s washing machine will plug into soon.

Then he had to do some work up high for the ceiling fan that will keep Nana and Papa cool in the summer.

“Louisville slugger coming to the rescue,” Flat Stanley said with a smile as he joined the guys working on the ceiling wires.

When he strung the wire way up high, it was a bit heavy for him and Swwiiisshhhh… down he came flying like a monkey on a trapeze wire.

“Ahhhahahahahaaahhhhh” he hollared like Tarzan.”  Do you know who Tarzan is?  Well he lived in the jungle and swung from thick vines from tree to tree and he had this most particular shout he did as he flew through the air.  Can you do that shout?

“Whew…I think I’ll stick with the ground wiring.” Flat Stanley said after his flight through the air.

So he got down on his knees like Theodore and began threading the wires through the electrical boxes with him.  This is where Papa’s plugs will plug in his TV.  Papa is excited about his new TV, he says every house should start off with a new TV, and the bigger the better for watching the Red Sox play!  He loves his Red Sox baseball team.  Do you have a favorite team?

Today, Flat Stanley’s favorite team was Elliot’s Electric Company.  They kept him safe and taught him a lot of new skills.  Flat Stanley was a really good helper and enjoyed the smiles the day brought.  I hope this finds you smiling too.  Enjoy your day and thank you for sharing Flat Stanley’s Adventures with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley Flies High

Flat Stanley was asking about the ski lift on the resort where Nana and Papa were staying.

Nana explained that it’s summertime, but in the winter, when there’s snow covering the ground up here on the mountain; that skiers fly down the mountains.

The ski lift has bench seats on a heavy wire that runs up and down the mountain.  The lift carries skiers to the top of the mountain, they are let off at the top and the ski to the bottom.

“When it’s summertime, you ride the lift for the view,” Nana explained.

“I want to go!” Flat Stanley exclaimed with that high pitched excitement in his voice.

Nana loves high places and Papa, well he breathes deep and plays along like he likes it.  Do you like when you’re in really high places looking down?

Flat Stanley decided he’d find out if he liked it.

We all climbed aboard the bench seat that would take us for a ride to the top of the mountain.

We started out low and slow on this cloudy day.

It didn’t take long before the lift carried us to the top of the mountain up in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.  We stayed on board and let it carry us back down.  The view was amazing.  Flat Stanley held on tight and giggled a lot.  Papa breathed in big sighs, I’m not sure if he was really enjoying this.

But Nana!  She was pointing and shouting “look you can see the lake over there in the next town from up here!” “Look at those farm animals, the cows look like speckled frogs from up here!”  It was amazing and Nana was loving the thrill!

As they reached the bottom of the lift and stepped off, Papa’s feet got up under him and he swayed a bit, but he caught his balance and nodded.  He’s a trooper.  Flat Stanley held his hand to steady him as they walked back to the car.

Flat Stanley was ready to ride again!!  His smile was so big.  I hope this finds you smiling too.  Enjoy your day!

Flat Stanley on Memorial Day

Nana and Papa are taking Papa’s mom, GrandmaT to the cemetery today.  Flat Stanley helped Nana pick some nice flowers from the yard and make an arrangement to decorate Grandpa Henry’s grave.

It’s memorial day and he was a decorated war hero.

Memorial day is a day where we remember those that have gone before us.  Soldiers that fought for our country and are no longer with us, a day of rememberence.

Nana’s purple iris bloomed this weekend, it reminded her of her sister that left us way too early.  Being a kind of sad day of rememberence; Flat Stanley and Nana decided to share a link with you today that is a real true to life story about the Flat Stanley Project and how a third grade student and his class,  sent Flat Stanley to a soldier and how he survived Baghdad and many other trials with the soldier.

It’s really long and more for grownups… but today is kind of long and more for grown ups.  Unless you’re having a BBQ or you’re on vacation.  A lot of families do that on Memorial Day weekend.  However you spend your day, spend it safely and know within you that there’s that beautiful smile.

Flat Stanley and the Warrior Princess

Flat Stanley woke up later than usual today.  He picked the sleep out of corner of his eyes as he made his way to the kitchen table.

Papa made his famous scrambled eggs with extra butter.  When he was cracking the eggs,  there was one egg that had TWO yolks inside!  One was a small yolk. See the cute little yolk?

Nana poured Flat Stanley a glass of orange juice as he grabbed for a slice of bacon.  Breakfast was delicious today.

“I had the best dream last night!” Flat Announced as he ate his breakfast.

“Do tell!” Nana replied with a smile over the rim of her coffee cup.

“Well, remember the other night when we had those thunder rumbles claps and slams that felt like they were coming through our roof?”

“It was like that in my dream, but this time instead of thinking about fireworks and a beach bbqs, I was in a far away land where the sky was pink and everyone walking down the street had bright colored clothes.”

“I was brought to the front of the crowd and that’s when I saw her!  Alexa was dressed like a princess.” Flat Stanley said with a big smile.

“We were both escorted to a clearing and then crowned with special crowns of bravery.  They were golden crowns with red and blue gems that glistened in the bright mid day sun.”

“Our eyebrows raised in unison and our shoulders shrugged as we read each other minds, you can do things like that in dreams you know,” Flat Stanley continued.

Papa coughed, wondering if you have to be dreaming to know what others are thinking, because it seems Nana can always read his mind.  And just like that Nana raised an eyebrow at him, seeming to read his mind.

“As they placed the crowns on top of our heads,  the Warrior Chieftain came forward with his large headdress and said, “Flat Stanley and Alexa, the bravery award is given to you as you have learned to rise above your fears and find ways to gather your strength, and become the Warrior you were born to be!”

“It’s weird” Flat Stanley said, “because we really felt like warriors with strength inside.  The crowd was cheering and just like that I woke up; I woke up feeling very strong and I was smiling!”

“You make me smile, Mr. Warrior!” Nana said “I believe you do find your true strength through some scary or upsetting times in life.  It’s all these trials that make us the unique, strong and hopefully happy people that we are.”

I hope this finds you smiling too and that you find your own strength to overcome that which frightens you; my warrior friends.

Flat Stanley Rides the Storm Out

As Flat Stanley layed his head down to sleep.  His pillow needed a bit of fluffing up and Nana helped adjust his sheets just so.

“Ok, Flat Stanley, we’ll rise early tomorrow, so get a good night’s sleep.” Nana said after reading a bit.  “Nana’s making bullseye eggs for breakfast tomorrow.”

Flat Stanley smiled as Nana left the room, he likes when Nana cuts the hole in the center of the bread and breaks an egg inside.  She flips it so carefully, that the yolk stays whole and runny.  Then you use the circle of toast she grills in the pan to dip in the yolk.

Sleep didn’t come quickly for Flat Stanley.  He tossed and turned a bit and the rain was beating against his window.  Usually, this is a comforting sound and it puts him right to sleep, but tonight, his mind just kept wandering to far away places.

Of course he was thinking about his friends in Virginia and he smiled recalling the dolphin ride with Mermaid Alexa.  Dreams are such a wonderful thing.  He squeezed his eyes shut tight, trying to enter a really fun dream.

But then crash boom went the thunder, and lightning bolts lit up the sky outside of his bedroom window.  Flat Stanley sat straight up in bed and said.. “Nanahhhh,” but Nana had already gone downstairs and Flat Stanley knew he should be sleeping, so he placed the pillow over his head and tried to silence the thunder.

His mind then went to fourth of July celebrations.  You know when the sky lights up in vibrant colors of red, white and blue?  Flat Stanley pretended that the crack boom bam in the sky was fireworks.

He pictured himself with Alexa and her cousins.  They were sitting on a sandy beach in a circle around a BIG Firepit.  Each of them had a straightened coat hanger with a marshmallow on the end of the stick roasting and toasting as they turned the gooey goodness over the flames.

Flat Stanley accidentally caught his marshmallow on fire, and when he blew it out, it was as black as tar.  Flat Stanley slid the burned outer crust off and ate the yummy warm marshmallow inside.

His next marshmallow was perfectly brown like toast as he carefully kept the marshmallow above the flames.

BOOOOM!!!  Came another wicked thunder clap.  Flat Stanley held his pillow tightly over his head and pictured the beautiful fireworks in the sky with Alexa beside him.  Everyone clapped and cheered in excitement.

He took a deep breath and went back to his marshmallows.  He imagined Alexa handing him a graham cracker and piece of chocolate.  Flat Stanley snapped the graham cracker in half and then placed the piece of chocolate on one half of the graham cracker and then like a sandwich, he slid his perfectly toasted marshmallow off of the stick to complete his masterpiece S’more!

Want S’mores?  I do too now!

He imagined the creamy goodness as the storm seemed to settle down ouside and he found himself falling to sleep.

In the morning, Flat Stanley trotted downstairs to the smell of fresh eggs cooking.  BULLSEYES!!  yeah!!!  Flat Stanley was smiling, Nana was smiling too.  She knows that thunderstorms can sound very loud and she was proud of Flat Stanley for riding the storm out as he described how he did it.  I hope you’re smiling too and that when the next storm comes that you ride it out as bravely as Flat Stanley.
