Stir Fry Stanley

Nana and Papa were on their way home from their weekend getaway when they stopped for lunch at Koto’s Japanese Steakhouse.

We decided to sit at the cooking table where the chef cooks the food right in front of you!

Flat Stanley was really excited about this lunch!  There was bamboo climbing up the walls and the people were really friendly.

Then the waitress rolled out a huge cart of cooking supplies, and set it next to the cooking table.

Flat Stanley asked the little guy up on top if he was the chef.

“No he replied, I just help put the flames out in case they get out of hand.”

The chef came out and heated up the grill very quickly.

“THIS grill is on FIRE!” he sang.  This let everyone know it was part of the show and not to worry.

His little buddy had to come out and put out the flames!

When the chef started putting the food on the grill, Flat Stanley asked if he could help.

“You’ve got to move it move it,” Chef Nur sang.  He liked to sing while he cooked.  He knew a lot of songs.

Flat Stanley joined in when he started doing the WHIP WHIP Nae Nae song!  That’s one of Flat Stanley’s favorites!

Then Chef Nur and Flat Stanley got down to business and put all the veggies, rice and meat on the hot griddle.  It was sizzling hot!

“The key to good stir fry is a sizzling hot pan and quick movement.  Like I said, you’ve got to move it move it…” Chef Nur sang again. “Fast and Steady, Fast and Steady.”

Flat Stanley helped Chef Nur put the food on Nana and Papa’s plate and they devoured it!  That means they ate it really fast.  It was so yummy!

When they got home, Flat Stanley decided to go to a friend’s house and show them what he learned today.

Emilee and Devin were really fast learners too!  Flat Stanley showed them how to safely chop chop chop.

“You have to be really careful with the big knife,” he explained.

“Turn it up high and stir like you fly, fast and steady on the ready!”

Emilee and Devin are wonderful chef’s and they were so happy to plate up some food for the family.

When Flat Stanley went in to let Alissa know that dinner was ready, he copied Nana’s screachy line; “Ohhhh it’s time for, DIIIINNNNNAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhh” He said.

As he was hanging on the last part of the ahhhhh, he noticed the beautiful artwork Alissa was working on and cut the last of the ahhhhhh short.

He went over to look a little closer.  She showed him how to shade and shadow and he showed her how to move it move it, so they could get to DINNnnaaaahhh!!!!

It was delicious and everyone was smiling!  I hope this finds you smiling too.  Enjoy your day and thank  you for sharing the pics!

Flat Stanley The Gardener

Nana and Papa had a garden party.  Flat Stanley was excited about everyone coming over to help Nana and Papa plant their garden this year.

“This is going to be a fun day!” Flat Stanley said with great excitement in his voice.

“Yes it is!” Nana smiled as they browsed the rows and rows of plants in the nursery.  She had to decide what vegetables she wanted in the garden.  It was hard to choose.  Who knew they had so many different varieties of tomatoes.  Nana finally settled on the little cherry tomatoes, the Better Boy tomatoes and Roma’s for the tomato sauce she likes to can in the fall.

Flat Stanley chose the banana peppers.  When Nana told him that they don’t grow bananas, he put them back.  But Nana likes banana peppers, so she put them back in the basket and added bell peppers, spinach, different kinds of lettuce and all kinds of herbs.  Nana’s favorite herb is basil.  What’s your favorite thing to grow in the garden?

Friends came over and the party got started!

Flat Stanley enjoyed playing in the pool with the kids.

But he also liked getting his hands dirty and planting the vegetables.

These are the “better boy” tomatoes.

“You can plant me right here,” Flat Stanley said, “cause I’m the BEST Boy!”

“You are the best boy in town sonny!” Nana told him with a smile.

Turning the soil was fun.  Flat Stanley loved getting his hands all dirty!

“Here you go Nana!  Here’s your favorite Basil.” Flat Stanley shouted as she left her pots boiling with corn and potatoes on the stove, to come out to see how the garden was coming along.

After all that hard work it was time to feast!

Nana had a dozen lobsters for everyone and fried chicken for any crazy soul that doesn’t like lobster.  She boiled corn on the cob and potatoes.  Flat Stanley’s favorite part of the meal was the fruit bowl!  It had fresh strawberries, blueberries and grapes.  His mouth looked like a rainbow of colors when he smiled.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  Enjoy a beautiful day!

Flat Stanley I am I am

Flat Stanley woke up in a pretty good mood, but his mood got way better when Nana pulled a BIG Mango out of the fruit bowl.  Flat Stanley’s eyes lit up and his mouth began to water as Nana cut into the juicy fruit and he could smell the sweet mango scent in the air.

When Nana handed Flat Stanley an entire plate of sweet juicy mango, his smile lit up wide and bright!  He devoured the sweet juicy fruit.

Nana shared hers with Papa and everyone was smiling with this tropical taste on their tongues.

This made Flat Stanley start the “Mango Tango Dance!”  This is where your feet fly high and your hands clap under your knees.  He wobbled his head from side to side and then broke into the slide.  Side to side swooop, side to side swooop.  Flat Stanley is a good dancer.

He’s a good singer too!  After Papa finished the dishes he spotted Flat Stanley in the corner jamming on his guitar.  Papa pulled up a chair to listen.

“I’m just a boy, I am, I am, I’m Flat Stanley and I love to jam.”

“You can do the Mango Tango if you please, do the side swoop and drop to your knees!  We do the Mango, TANGOOooooo; we do the Mango, TANGOOOoooo.”

Nana and Papa were both enjoying Flat Stanley’s silliness and it brought a huge smile to their faces.  I hope Flat Stanley brought a smile to your face too.  Smiles are definitely contagious and we all need more smiling in today’s world.

Please subscribe and Nana will send you an email when a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.  Have a great day and share the smiles with others!

Flat Stanley Enjoys Bubbles and Puddles

Flat Stanley wasn’t having a very good couple of days.  He wasn’t feeling very well and spent most of his day resting.

After dinner tonight, Flat Stanley began feeling much better.  A few friends came over and Nana came out with BUBBLES!  Flat Stanley was so excited about meeting a new friend.  Her name is Eris and she was pretty taken by Flat Stanley too.

All kids LOVE bubbles and Flat Stanley and Eris are no exception!  Nana proved she was a kid by showing how much she loved popping the bubbles out of the air too.

“Pop, Pop, Pop,” she said as she finger poked them in mid air.

Flat Stanley enjoyed doing the blowing part.  He loves watching the bubbles fly from his wand like magic.

Eris liked chasing the bubbles that Flat Stanley blew and she also said “Pop, Pop, POP,” as she plucked them out of the air with her finger.

Then Flat Stanley and Eris found the big puddle.

You know they wanted to, you know they had to; you know they DID!

…and then he went swimming.

Eris had her rain boots on, so she was able to save Flat Stanley from his swimming hole.  Everyone was so happy to see Flat Stanley get up and laugh.  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Please subscribe if you’d like Nana to send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley adventure is posted.  Who doesn’t like a smile delivered daily?

Flat Stanley Celebrates Grandma T’s Birthday!

Flat Stanley had the best day, he got to go out to lunch with Papa’s mom, Grandma T; and share her 96th birthday with her!

As we made our way up the ramp inside the heavy door which Grandma T INSISTED on holding for everyone, we found ourselves in a beautiful Irish Restaurant.  The walls were covered in dark wood that made it really warm and inviting.

The signs on the walls were fun to read, and they made everyone at the table giggle as we walked by.  The walls were covered in signs and little plaques.  Our favorite was right over our own table.

“Money is the root of all evil, men need roots.”

“Yes we do!” Auntie Elaine said with a chuckle.  If you remember, Auntie Elaine is Papa’s sister.  She came up from Virginia to celebrate their mom’s birthday this week.

Flat Stanley climbed up into the seat and was ready to eat!  He was hungry.  Everyone was.

We ordered an app, not the kind of app on a cell phone, but an appetizer.  It’s a small snack that comes to the table before your meal.  Only this “app” was anything but small!  It was calamari, which is a fancy name for squid and Flat Stanley wasn’t sure if he’d like to try it.  But, it was delicious!  Flat Stanley is an adventurous eater.  He likes to try new things.  Do you?

Flat Stanley ordered the seafood pie.  It was baked seafood covered in mashed cauliflower and browned just a little to make it crispy on top.  Papa ordered the same thing as Flat Stanley!

When the waitress brought the food, she told Papa it was hot, but Papa must not have heard her because he burned the roof of his mouth on the HOT Potatoes.  Poor Papa.  The ice cubes from his water helped sooth his pain.  Flat Stanley was very careful to blow on his seafood pie.

Flat Stanley caught Papa stealing some baked schrod fish from Grandma T’s plate.  He looked a little guilty.

The best part of the meal came after everyone leaned back and said they were so very full they couldn’t eat another bite.  Have you ever felt like that?

Well, there we were, leaned back in our “full to the brim” mode, when the waitress came singing “Happy Birthday to you….Happy Birthday to youuuuu.. Happy Birthday dear Moooooom,” Happy Birthday to youuuuuuu…”

Flat Stanley helped Grandma T blow her candle out.

It was a sweet afternoon, but Flat Stanley knew that it was about to get way sweeter!

Everyone that was so full and couldn’t eat another bite just seconds before suddenly grabbed a spoon and completely devoured the frozen pie made with Bailey’s ice cream.

Grandma T then opened her cards and presents.

She was happy to receive a new necklace that has three circles.  One in silver, one in gold and one in bronze.  The circles on the necklace say Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma.

Flat Stanley decided that Grandma T needed a new name.  He started calling her “Grandma GREAT!”

When the presents were opened and the cards were read, Flat Stanley looked at the creamy melted goodness at the bottom of the dessert bowl.  You know he wanted to, you know he HAD to; You know he DID!

Flat Stanley enjoyed licking the bowl clean!  It was a day of fun and giggles.  I hope this finds you giggling too!  Please subscribe if you’d like Nana to send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley adventure is posted!

Flat Stanley on the Scaffold

Flat Stanley watched the workermen working on Nana and Papa’s house all day from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.  It was a hot day today, rising over 85 degrees.

Nana brought the workermen some ice water to drink in the afternoon.  Flat Stanley asked if they needed any help, but they said they were just finishing up for the day.

After covering the entire home in a beautiful colonial cream siding, they loaded their work truck with all of the tools and off they drove to have dinner with their families.

After he watched them leave, Flat Stanley went through the house trying all of the windows.  Someone has to make sure that they all work is what he was thinking.

When he trotted around to the front of the house, he was singing his own happy song.  Do you know what song makes Flat Stanley happy?

“Bibbidi-bobbidi-BOO” from the Cinderella movie!

“Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo

Put ’em together and what have you got“

Wow!  Flat Stanley was surprised to see the front of the house nearly completely covered in the pretty siding now too!

The workermen left their big scaffolding up.  They used it to get the highest peeks of the siding in place.  As he walked and dipped along the rock wall out front his eyes kept skipping back to the scaffold ladder.

You know he wanted to, you know he had to; you know he did!

He climbed the scaffolding to the very tippity top.

Nana came out to call Flat Stanley in for dinner and could hear the singing coming from way up high.

“Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo

Put ’em together and what have you got“

“Flat Stanley!” Nana shouted, “what are you trying to do, hurt Nana by giving me heart palpitations?”  That’s when your heart beats really fast and it feels like it’s going to come out of your chest, you know like after you run really fast for a long time, or when you’re really scared.

Flat Stanley giggled and began working his way down the scaffolding.  He was still smiling as he ran toward Nana and chased the kitty shinzee up the walk.

I hope this finds you smiling too!

Flat Stanley and the Warrior Princess

Flat Stanley woke up later than usual today.  He picked the sleep out of corner of his eyes as he made his way to the kitchen table.

Papa made his famous scrambled eggs with extra butter.  When he was cracking the eggs,  there was one egg that had TWO yolks inside!  One was a small yolk. See the cute little yolk?

Nana poured Flat Stanley a glass of orange juice as he grabbed for a slice of bacon.  Breakfast was delicious today.

“I had the best dream last night!” Flat Announced as he ate his breakfast.

“Do tell!” Nana replied with a smile over the rim of her coffee cup.

“Well, remember the other night when we had those thunder rumbles claps and slams that felt like they were coming through our roof?”

“It was like that in my dream, but this time instead of thinking about fireworks and a beach bbqs, I was in a far away land where the sky was pink and everyone walking down the street had bright colored clothes.”

“I was brought to the front of the crowd and that’s when I saw her!  Alexa was dressed like a princess.” Flat Stanley said with a big smile.

“We were both escorted to a clearing and then crowned with special crowns of bravery.  They were golden crowns with red and blue gems that glistened in the bright mid day sun.”

“Our eyebrows raised in unison and our shoulders shrugged as we read each other minds, you can do things like that in dreams you know,” Flat Stanley continued.

Papa coughed, wondering if you have to be dreaming to know what others are thinking, because it seems Nana can always read his mind.  And just like that Nana raised an eyebrow at him, seeming to read his mind.

“As they placed the crowns on top of our heads,  the Warrior Chieftain came forward with his large headdress and said, “Flat Stanley and Alexa, the bravery award is given to you as you have learned to rise above your fears and find ways to gather your strength, and become the Warrior you were born to be!”

“It’s weird” Flat Stanley said, “because we really felt like warriors with strength inside.  The crowd was cheering and just like that I woke up; I woke up feeling very strong and I was smiling!”

“You make me smile, Mr. Warrior!” Nana said “I believe you do find your true strength through some scary or upsetting times in life.  It’s all these trials that make us the unique, strong and hopefully happy people that we are.”

I hope this finds you smiling too and that you find your own strength to overcome that which frightens you; my warrior friends.

Flat Stanley Sings with the Birds

Nana woke up to her favorite sound.  Birds were singing in the air outside.  When she stepped carefully down the stairs they got louder and louder.  She soon realized it wasn’t a bird, but Flat Stanley doing a perfect cardinal whistle.

He’s been practicing his whistle for a long time and has really gotten good at it.  Can you whistle like a bird?

“Flat Stanley, your whistle fooled me today, I thought we had a flock of cardinals in the yard.” Nana said to him.

Flat Stanley smiled up at Nana and told her about his morning.  He got up early and went  wandering around the yard.  The storm last night left wet grass, big mud puddles and a lot of happy birds in it’s wake.

When Flat Stanley saw the big puddles of mud, you know what he wanted to do, you know he had to; you know he did!

Jump splash boom, splasha splasha splasha GOOOOOON!!!! Who’s the goon, who’s the goon?  Not me not you, SPLASHHHH!!

Nana was giggling when she told Flat Stanley to get his muddy feet back outside and go play!  It’s a nice day!

Flat Stanley was having a blast outside!  He heard the birds in the bushes and went out to say hello.  They like Nana’s sweet lilacs.

The birds flew away when he climbed up into the bush with them, so he stayed really still and quiet until they came back and he could listen to their chirps and special calls.

Did you know that you can tell what kind of bird it is just by their unique call?

The cardinal is his favorite, viiviiiiiiiw, viiviiiiiiiw, peep peep peep peep peep peep peep.

As he was chirping in the lilacs, he saw it!  The big groundhog that lives under Papa’s old shed came out to say hello!  Can you see him there ready to crawl back into his holey home under the shed?

Nana named him “Gary the Groundhog,” she came out just in time to see him scuttle back into this home.

This is what he looks like up close.

As Nana came to join Flat Stanley on the garden bench, Nana told Flat Stanley about all of the wildlife they’ve seen here on this beautiful plot of land they call home.

Flat Stanley was surprised to hear that Nana spotted a coyote, a fox and one time a mama deer and her baby doe came trotting across the backyard.

But of course Flat Stanley’s favorite critter will always be his feathered friends in the coop!  The chickens were squawking, awaiting their morning treats, so Nana and Flat Stanley brought them fresh water and food.

Do chickens smile?  If they could, they’d be smiling now.  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Enjoy your day and please subscribe so that Nana can send you an email when a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.  Everyone needs a free smile delivered daily!

Happy Mother’s Day from Flat Stanley

Flat Stanley would like to wish all the mama’s, and those that care for the loves in their lives a big Happy Mother’s Day!

“Here’s a big cup of your favorite blueberry coffee with toast and pretty smelling lilac flowers that Briana picked for you!” Flat Stanley said with love in his voice and a bright smile on his face.

A big Happy Mother’s Day to all the ladies out there with little loves in their care!

Auntie Terri came into the room singing “Happy Mother’s Day to youuuuu…” to Nana, and then Nana joined in, singing the same tune back to her.  “Happy Mother’s Day to Youuuuu…” they were singing and laughing together in the tune of the happy birthday song.

They made Flat Stanley smile as they hugged good wishes.

Nana was thinking about her own mom on this special day.

“Look at this picture of Nana as a little girl with my own mom,” Nana said.  Flat Stanley’s mouth opened wide.  It was hard to imagine Nana as a little girl in her mother’s arms.  But he recognized her smile right away.

Flat Stanley was happy when he heard Nana and Papa saying that we were all going out to lunch with GrandmaT, Auntie Terri and Briana!

When we pulled up to a bakery, Flat Stanley’s belly growled really loud and it made everyone in the car laugh!

We stepped inside the bakery and the smell of fresh cookies greeted you!  Yum!!  Nana let Flat Stanley know that he could pick out a treat, but first he had lunch to eat.  He and Briana both chose bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.  It was stacked so high, Flat Stanley could hardly get his mouth to stretch that wide!  But he did.  He ate every bite and then had a pastry!  It was filled with his favorite lemon filling.

Flat Stanley offered to take our picture as we stepped out of the car to give Mother’s day hugs to GrandmaT.  He got pictures of all the ladies.  Flat Stanley and Briana were really enjoying this day to celebrate the ladies in their life.

When we got home, Briana set the camera up in Nana’s living room and sat her mom in Nana’s big easy chair.  Auntie Terri wasn’t feeling well, but she smiled really big when Briana surprised her with concert tickets to see one of her favorite musicians, Chris Brown; LIVE in July!

Auntie Terri was so happy and filled with love for her daughter that had worked so hard to save up every dollar earned for months, in an effort to give her mom a Happy Mother’s Day gift.

GrandmaT kept putting her rolled up newspaper over her face because she thought Flat Stanley was holding the camera too close.  Nana quickly moved the newspaper away from her face, and Flat Stanley caught her beautiful smile!

Everyone was smiling and feeling the love!  I hope this finds you smiling too and a BIG Happy Mother’s Day!  **Don’t forget to make plans to visit if you’re missing your mom or grandma, you know they’re missing you too!**

Flat Stanley Goes to the Petting Zoo

Flat Stanley’s eyes were sparkling with excitement when Nana told him that we were taking him and Briana to the petting zoo.

“I don’t know what kind of animals will be at a petting zoo,” Flat Stanley said, “but I love all animals!  So this is going to be a fun day!”

We piled in the car and drove out of town to where the special petting zoo was being held by Klem’s in Spencer, MA.

*** If you’re local, check it out!  They’re there all weekend. ***

When we got out of the car, we were greeted with the smell of fresh hay and cotton candy!

“This is what I’m talking about!” Flat Stanley said as he smiled up at Nana.

Briana took Flat Stanley’s hand and they ran ahead of Nana and Papa to see the baby goats.  Oh she knows how badly Nana wants goats.

“I want screaming goats and fainting goats,” Nana said, as she and Papa caught up with them.  “When the screamers blat out their screams, the fainters faint like they’re playing dead!”

Flat Stanley and Briana decided they wanted to see that too!

There were food receptacles set up near every stall with the animal’s favorite treats.  They loved being fed.  Briana was a little skittish at first, but the goats showed her how it’s done.  They’re not shy!

Papa’s favorite was the baby emu.  She was so cute with her little feathers and long legs the same length as her neck!

“It looks like a walking squash,” Papa said.

“Imagine what they’ll look like when they’re fully grown.” Nana pondered to herself thinking of their long legs and neck rising much higher than her own.

Flat Stanley liked the Llamas, and as you can see, the llamas LOVED him!

Briana posed for a picture with the big Australian Cow.  It was tame and let Papa grab his horn.

Nana said she took this picture for Auntie Shana, Alexa’s mommy.  She said she was waiting for them to dance like the ones in Barbados!  But they were very still.  Flat Stanley thought they were two large rocks in the corner, until Nana pointed out their little legs protruding from under their tortoise shells.

The sheep were very hungry with their calls for food.

Can you make a sound like hungry sheep?

We kept returning to the Llama pen.  They were so friendly, and they loved being scratched and talked to.

Papa was having a nice little chat with Eliandra the Llama, when Flat Stanley came up to do a little photo shoot.  They all smiled for the camera, even Eliandra.  Can you see her smile?

Wait, here’s a close up.

Flat Stanley saw the ponies and wanted to ride!  Unfortunately, Briana said she didn’t want to, so we had to just watch the other kids.  After a bit, Flat Stanley agreed that going in a circle being held on to, was more for babies.

He wanted a lasso, and to be let loose in an arena. As he imagined this he accidentally shouted out “Giddy up and RIDE!” The toddlers on the ponies loved it! One boy raised an arm in the air playing along with him.

After a lot of fun with the animals, Briana was drawn to the smell of cotton candy.  Flat Stanley, Nana and Papa followed her to watch the man spin the sugar on a stick round and around, until it was bigger than her head!

Flat Stanley enjoyed the fun adventure and skipped to the car smiling.  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Enjoy a beautiful day and please subscribe so that Nana can send you a smile tomorrow!  Who doesn’t need smiles delivered every day?
