Flat Stanley Skips Away

I’m sorry for the lack of a post yesterday, but Flat Stanley was nowhere to be found!  I woke up yesterday morning and he wasn’t in his bed!  Papa had to go to Boston to get an eye procedure done, so I asked Auntie Terri to keep an eye out for him.

“Where could he be?” Nana asked Terri upon returning home and still no sign of the little cutout cutie.

Auntie Terri, Briana and I were just coming out from the frames of the our home, thinking we may find him working in there when we saw him strutting up the driveway with a back beat swagger to his step and his backpack slung over his shoulder just before the sun went down.

“Flat Stanley, you had us scared out of our wits! Where were you all day?”

Flat Stanley smiled so wide his eyes were no longer visible as he told us about his day.

He told us about the sound of the train down the hill from our home speaking to him in the night and giving him ideas.  He took a walk in the morning, hopped aboard the local Worcester rail and found his way to the train station in Boston.

From there, Flat Stanley said he saw “Washington DC” on the schedule and just had to go see his bestie Alexa again!  He talked about how he’s been thinking about her nonstop since leaving town this week and he just had to go back and give her one last hug goodbye.

and the story continued…

Alexa was bedazzling the final dazzles on her new treasure box, when Flat Stanley came knocking at the door.  Her heart lept up into her throat and she looked up and down the street.

“Where is Nana and Papa?” Alexa asked.

“I took the train all the way from Boston to give you one last goodbye hug; I’ve missed you so much!”

Alexa was shaking her head and smiling but a bit worried that her little friend had taken such a long ride alone.

They enjoyed a late breakfast meal together and he got a great big hug from Alexa before heading out the door.

“We’ll see you soon Flat Stanley,” Alexa said.

As Flat Stanley was walking up the street to find his train back north, he see’s Alexa’s brother Jake taking a shortcut through the woods.

“Flat Stanley!  What are you doing here?  Are Nana and Papa back in town?” Jake asked.

“No, I came here alone…but I’m on my way back to Massachusetts now,” he replied.

“Well, before you leave, I’m having band practice in a bit, do you want to come?” Jake asked him.

You know Flat Stanley could never refuse a chance to play the drums with Jake!  Of course he said yes!

Jake’s friend came and picked them up, his friend Tom is a senior in high school and he was really cool.  They had the music going and were grinding to the beat in their seat.

When they arrived at the practice hall, Flat Stanley got to meet the entire band.  They loved his rhythm as they pounded out some beats.  He showed them how he could read musical notes and when to break.

This piano that brian was jamming on, had really cool sounds.  He could make it sound like horns, drums, strings, so many things!

The vibraphone is like a xylophone but filled the air with a really jazzy tone!

But you know it was the cool but rather odd drums that really caught Flat Stanley’s attention.

“Boom batta bam, boottie, bam bot tam!” Flat Stanley was singing as they played.

He really enjoyed his time at band practice, but he knew he’d better catch that northbound train if he was going to be back home by dark!

So, off he ran with a spring in his step and a big smile on his face!

I hope this finds you smiling too!  Please subscribe and Nana will send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.  We all need a few more smiles in our day.  Spread the word…share the smiles.

Flat Stanley Joins the Orchestra

Flat Stanley was really looking forward to his day with Alexa’s big sister, Jaida.

He climbed up the giant steps, onto the school bus and found his seat; right in the front row, behind the bus driver.

“Come on, Flat Stanley,” Jaida said “my friends are in the back row, where the cool kids sit.”

Flat Stanley counted the rows of seats as they made their way to the very back of the bus.

“16 rows!” Flat Stanley exclaimed as he hopped up on the seat under the very back window.

Jaida introduced Flat Stanley to Cool Cody “Dominic.”  He let Flat Stanley wear his ear buds and listen to his boppin’ music.

As they cruised up to the middle school, Flat Stanley slid into Jaida’s backpack.  Flat Stanley isn’t old enough to be seen in middle school, so he had to hide.

Sometimes, between classes, Flat Stanley would poke Jaida’s back, through her backpack.  She giggled down the hallways.

At one point, Jaida took Flat Stanley out for one sneak peek at the coolest hallway in the school!

This hallway listed all the kids that worked really hard in school.

Flat Stanley also liked the shiny trophy case that highlighted the school’s top athletes.

After school, Jaida had an orchestra concert to perform in.  She plays the clarinet really well.  Flat Stanley enjoys listening to her practice, but to hear her play with a full band of instruments was going to be really fun!

Flat Stanley had the best seat in the house; in Papa’s shirt pocket.

It wasn’t long before Jaida took the stage like a rock star! Flat Stanley was clapping for her!

They sounded precise and well practiced.  Flat Stanley’s feet were tapping so hard, he almost toppled out of Papa’s pocket.

Flat Stanley was watching the conductor “Maestro,” as his arms flew through the air leading the beat. He looked at the row of clarinet players that Jaida played in perfect time with, he watched the oboe players and flute players, but he decided it was the symbols  he would play when he’s in middle school.

Or maybe he will play the BIG Tuba!

He really couldn’t decide!  But then he came across the DRUM!  He knew then that he would grow up and play the drums like Alexa and Jaida’s big brother, Jake!

Flat Stanley tracked the drummer down because he was feeling the groove through his bones! You know he wanted to, you know he had to; you know he did!

Flat Stanley found the drummer and joined the orchestra!

With a bam boom bam and a rattaty tat, he hammered out a beat, just like that!

After the show, everyone was congratulating Jaida, Flat Stanley and the band.

Papa gave Jaida a big kiss on the cheek.

Flat Stanley then got to meet Jaida’s daddy, Leo.  He was very proud of his girl.

Jaida had a wonderful night and was smiling.  We were all smiling!  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Thank you for sharing Flat Stanley’s daily adventure eBook blog with your friends and family!  We all need smiles delivered daily.
