Flat Stanley Finds a Portal

Flat Stanley was out in the yard again today.  He loves springtime and all of the beautiful flowers.  More flowers were blooming all over the yard, it was so pretty.  He walked up the long driveway, kicking up gravel as he stepped.

He cut across the front lawn toward the rock wall by the street that is lined with gigantic maple trees.

The tallest maple tree looked like it would be fun to climb.  Flat Stanley began placing his feet in the deep crevices of the bark and made his way up higher and higher.

When he got up as high as the telephone poles, he had reached large holes in the tree.

Flat Stanley looked inside thinking that maybe there would be a bird’s nest in there, but when he got really close, there was a swooshing sound and a vibration that pulled him in.  He felt a spinning sensation and closed his eyes for a second.

When he opened them again, he was in a magical land of gnomes.  He felt like a giant as he circled around a mushroom and watched the friendly gnomes sing and dance in the distance.

Flat Stanley walked up to them with his usual big smile on his face.  His feet started moving to the beat and the gnomes welcomed him into their circle.  Flat Stanley picked up on the chorus and joined in.

“We dance, we dance, circling around we dance.  Come fly over the rainbow of love as we dance, we dance, circling around we dance.”

Flat Stanley let his legs fly high and clapped under his knees just like the gnomes.  Their laughs were really high and cute.  Flat Stanley was having fun.

At the end of the song, a rainbow arched down and like a bridge all of the gnomes began to walk up the lines of green, red, yellow and blue.  Flat Stanley joined in the line and when he reached the top of the rainbow, Swoooosh!

Flat Stanley was swooshed back to the tree in Nana and Papa’s yard.

“Wow!  That was fun!”  Flat Stanley exclaimed as he ran back across the yard and up the driveway.  He has a great imagination.  His smile was wide and eyes were bright as he went inside for lunch.

I hope your smile is wide too!  Enjoy your day and please subscribe, so that Nana can send you an email when a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.

Flat Stanley Photographs Maine

Flat Stanley woke up and the wind was whipping his hair to and fro.  He was happy to get into the lobby of the hotel without blowing away!  The waffles at the hotel are the best with fresh Maine blueberries!

“Maine is where we’re heading today,” Nana said, seeming to read his mind.  “Maine is known for their blueberry crops and they are delicious!” she said, solidifying his assumption.  She CAN read minds!

After a hearty breakfast, Nana and Papa drove about 20 minutes north to the Sarah Mildred Long bridge.  It’s a LONG bridge that takes you out of New Hampshire and into Maine.  Flat Stanley thought the bridge looked like four rocket ships rising into the sky.  So, of course he took a picture.

Once in Maine, Nana and Papa headed for the beach.

“Maine has beautiful beaches and I love to listen to the waves splashing against the shore,” Nana said.

She collected a few rocks for Papa and Flat Stanley took pictures.

They made their way all the way to York, where Nana was thrilled to see all of the old houses, antique shops and little art galleries.  It is a fun little town.

There’s also an historical lighthouse in Maine, well there are many of them; but we went to the one in York.

The Cape Neddick Light is a lighthouse in Cape Neddick, York, Maine.  Construction began on this historical lighthouse in 1879.

After a windy walk along the shore there, they got back in the car and Papa said he had a hankering for LOBSTER!

“When in Maine…”

When we pulled up the restaurant, Papa hopped out and found himself a lobster.

He literally, found himself a LOBSTER!

And guess what Nana found?  She found herself a Captain!

Captain Morgan!

It was a fun afternoon and the lobster plates were wonderful.

Flat Stanley had to use the mens room in the restaurant.  On his way, he looked up and found these buoys hanging from the ceiling.  You know he wanted to, you know he had to, do you think he did?

I think he did.  But he had the camera, so we’ll never know for sure.

He does keep us smiling.  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Enjoy your day!  Please subscribe so that Nana can send you a free smile in your email box every day!  Thank you for telling your friends about Flat Stanley’s Adventures!

Flat Stanley Rides to the Wild West

Today is a very special day at Alexa’s elementary school.  Alexa and Flat Stanley were excited about the “Shake Your Tail Feathers” dance!

Alexa dressed in her flannel shirt, jeans and boots, before coming downstairs to pack her lunch.  Papa is still amazed at how grown up Alexa is, that she can make her own lunch for school.

“Did you know that I used to wear my hair in two braids like this everyday through elementary school?” Nana geezed as she braided Alexa’s hair in two pigtails.

Alexa was dolled up just like a little cowgirl!

“Round up and saddle up!” Papa said when it was time to go.

Flat Stanley grabbed his hat and galloped to the car.

Because this was such a special day, Nana and Papa stopped at McDonald’s before school today.

Although Alexa’s smile didn’t show it, she said she found the worst thing to order at McDonald’s! She did not like the pancakes on the McGriddle!

“Mom makes much better bacon!” Alexa said as she sipped her juice.”

“Now it’s time for a hootinanny!” Flat Stanley shouted as they finished their meal.

Nana was really excited about meeting Alexa’s first grade teacher Mrs. Wenzel.  She was so sad when she found out that she wouldn’t be at the party.

“I hope everything is ok and that she’ll be back to school soon” Nana told the nice lady in the office.

Flat Stanley was also looking forward to seeing Mrs. Wenzel again, and he was sad that she couldn’t be there on this special day as well.

They heard the big speakers in the gym calling everyone to a big circle! Six classrooms of first graders filed in and found their places!

The gym was decorated in a wild west theme with their artwork displayed on the walls.

Flat Stanley pretended he was Sheriff John Brown.  He put the hat with the fancy star on his head and went on his way to find the bad guys.

The wild west can be a very dangerous place.

Nana was so excited when they started off with the chicken dance! Flat Stanley was flapping his wings and clucking like a chicken around the center of the gym.

Then Alexa grabbed Flat Stanley for the Disco limbo, where they leaned way back and tried not to touch the pole.

Flat Stanley liked line dancing!

But Flat Stanley’s favorite dance was the Macarena!

This “Shake Your Tail Feathers” dance was so much fun it made Flat Stanley tired!  He decided to sit with Papa and watch the kids do the hokey pokey.

But, when the kids put their whole selves in, Flat Stanley had to join in and shake it all about!

What a fun party!  Flat Stanley was smiling his big beautiful smile.  He really enjoyed dancing with all of his friends in Mrs. Wenzel’s class again!

I hope this finds you smiling too! Thank you for subscribing and sharing Flat Stanley’s daily adventure blog with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley is Missing Briana and Auntie Terri

As Flat Stanley and Alexa were eating their cheesy eggs that Nana made, Flat Stanley’s mind began to wander.

He was thinking about all of the fun he’s had this week with Alexa, Jake, Jaida and all of the cousins, but at the same time had a nagging tinge of sadness.  He was missing Briana and Auntie Terri.

He knew he wasn’t alone in these feelings.  Alexa is having fun with Nana and Papa here, and loves the adventures with Flat Stanley; but she also misses her mommy and daddy who are on vacation.

Auntie Shana, Alexa’s mom and Don, her dad are enjoying an anniversary trip in paradise island; but Flat Stanley could even hear a tinge of sadness in their voices when they called home to check on everyone.

So Flat Stanley didn’t feel alone in his mixed emotions of overwhelming joy and excitement, and missing someone.

Auntie Shana recorded a fun good night video where she sings her special “good night sweetheart” song to Alexa.  Nana plays it for her at bedtime and although she smiles while she does the “tickle tickle” part back to her mom in the recording, Flat Stanley could see the sadness behind her eyes.

Flat Stanley’s happy heart strings are super excited about spending such a fun time on adventures with Alexa, but at the same time those other heart strings are pulled because it’s hard when you’re missing those you love. I wish we could all live on the same street!

It was nice to hear Auntie Terri’s voice when she called, but the pictures Briana sent, made Flat Stanley really miss home.

Briana was playing in the basement of the barn.  Briana likes to bring her friends to the creepiest places, but her friend Claudia didn’t seem to mind. She found a caterpillar!

And they finally have springtime in Massachusetts!  Look at those spring smiles in front of Nana’s forsythia bush!

And Flat Stanley loved the picture of Claudia holding Penelope the chicken!

Their BBQ looked fun too!  Flat Stanley can eat three hot dogs!  He likes his with extra extra ketsup, which usually makes a big mess, but that’s what outside BBQs are made for!

That and lots of laughter!

“You know what keeps me happy Flat Stanley?” Nana asked.  “I focus on the good heart strings, the ones that make me laugh out loud.  Like a chicken dance in my chicken pants, and the laughter of my grandloves!”

“Another thing that helps us through a sad moment is to think about tomorrow and something you have to look forward to.”

“Yes, Flat Stanley!” Alexa exclaimed. “Think about all of the hugs and kisses and tickles to come when we’re all reunited again!”

Alexa was smiling as she went on to cheer Flat Stanley up by mentioning the Cinco De Mayo party this weekend! On THE day her Mom and Dad return!  Something to look forward to brought a smile to all of our faces.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  Please subscribe and Nana will send you a daily smile!

Flat Stanley Shares Thai Food with Alexa

Nana and Papa woke up with twinkling taste buds.  They were in the mood for Thai food and couldn’t wait to visit Thai Town near Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Alexa tried the coconut soup, tom kha ga, but it wasn’t her favorite.  She gave it to her grandma Christa, and she loved it!

Alexa and Flat Stanley shared the Chicken on a stick, called Satay.  They both loved the creamy peanutty sauce!

“This is the BEST Asian food ever!” Alexa said.  She’s definitely Nana and Papa’s grandlove!  They feel the same way.

When Nana went to pay the bill, she found Flat Stanley had snuck away from the table and climbed up on the lovely buddhist display to dance with the pretty karashina doll!

Flat Stanley’s feet were moving to the funky beat pulsing with his heart. “Yaba baba bay bay, Saba Saba nay nay!” He danced as he chanted and grooved in his groovy way. Until…

“Flat Stanley! What did you get into today?” Nana exclaimed in her not so nice tone.

Nana was helping Flat Stanley down from the special display and brought him back to the table where Alexa was just finishing the last sip of her pink lemonade.  She sucked on the straw and made loud gurgling sounds in the bottom of the cup.

The nice lady at the restaurant had a pretty smile and brought Papa the hot hot hot peppers he asked for and has to have whenever we visit Thai Town!

After everyone was very full and very happy, we decided it was time to go shopping!

Nana saw the “little cuties” tangerine display and just had to have a picture of her “little cuties” in front of the store display.

Nana placed Flat Stanley safely in Grandma Christa’s care. Flat Stanley enjoyed the motorized cart.

As Nana turned down isle fourteen, to pick up some baking powder for her peanut butter cookies; around the corner flies Grandma Christa and Flat Stanley.

“Bbbbrrrmmmmmmm, bbbbrrrmmmmmmm” Flat Stanley hummed with the cart as they flew past Nana in the isle.

There was little Nana could do.

I just shook my head and finished up with my shopping.

We all met up at the check out with big smiles!  Alexa had a few crafts in the cart.  Nana’s been trying to get the grandloves to enjoy baseball with her, but sometimes a distraction works best.

We hope you enjoyed this distraction of smiles today!  Thanks for subscribing and sharing the smiles Nana and Flat Stanley bring!

Flat Stanley in The Land of Wishes

Flat Stanley ran out to greet Alexa as she came down the giant stairs of the school bus with a big smile! It was a happy reunion with a lot of hugs and smiles.

When they walked up the driveway to the house together, Flat Stanley’s eyes lit up with sparkles of excitement and he  said to Alexa, “look at all those wishes in your yard!”

Flat Stanley jumped down in the middle of the wishes!  Then, you wouldn’t believe what happened, but Nana got a picture of it, so we have proof.

If you look really close, you can see the wasp that landed on his left hand.  Thankfully, it was a friendly wasp, and he didn’t sting Flat Stanley.  Thet would have hurt!

Alexa picked him up and picked the biggest wish making Dandelion from the yard.  She closed her eyes and held Flat Stanley close…and then she made her wish.

What do you think Alexa wished for?

If wishes come true, I think she wished for a fun day with Nana, Papa, Flat Stanley and the family.

Flat Stanley smiled really big for the camera as Alexa caught him climbing up the dogwood tree to smell the flowers.  Did you know that the Dogwood tree is recognized as THE Virginia state tree?

Then Alexa got her bike and fancy safety helmet from the garage.

Alexa put Flat Stanley in her bicycle pouch and rode like the wind down the little side street.  Flat Stanley started singing.

“Ride, ride like the wind…” As he felt the wind blowing through his hair.

They passed Alexa’s sister Jaida on her pogo stick.  It was a beautiful day for playing outside.

Nana was delighted to spend this afternoon in the warm Virginia springtime, outside with Flat Stanley and her grandloves.

After Alexa’s brother  Jake scared Nana with his tricks on his bicycle, Jake and Jaida continued to worry Nana with their skateboard tricks. These. Kids!

The smiles couldn’t be bigger here in Virginia!  I hope this finds you smiling too!  Thanks for subscribing and sharing Flat Stanley’s Adventures with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley is Off for New Adventures

Flat Stanley woke up with a spring in his step and danced to the breakfast table.

“Cha Cha Cha I see Alexa todayyy” Flat Stanley sang a little ditty to the movement of his feet.

Nana and Papa were busy packing up  the car.  Auntie Elaine and Uncle Jimmy had been collecting their egg cartons and Nana asked Flat Stanley to pack up the eggs for Auntie Shana and Auntie Tanya’s households.

The spring in Nana’s step went in two directions.  So happy to be on their way to spend a week with their nine grandloves in Virginia, and sad to be leaving Auntie Elaine and Uncle Jimmy.

“We hope you’ll be able to come over for lunch next week. It’s about an hour drive, so maybe we can meet halfway.”

The thought of a short-term goodbye made it easier.

While Nana and Papa were busy saying their goodbyes, Flat Stanley said “adios amigos” to his new pet friends Riley, Penny and most friendly Henry.

Before hitting the road they stopped for lunch at the local Bobby K’s in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

This is where flat Stanley spotted the giant Rooster!

“Oh Papa, You know I want to, you know I need to, you know I have to!”

Papa’s smile grew wider as he hefted Flat Stanley up on the giant Rooster.

“Yippeeekayayyyyyy!!! I’m off to see Alexa!” Flat Stanley shouted in the crowded restaurant.

Nana gave Papa “the look,” and Papa brought Flat Stanley back to the table.  He was smiling wide and ate very quickly ready to be on the road for more adventures!

We hope this finds you smiling too!  Thank you for subscribing and sharing Flat Stanley’s Adventures with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley at Play with the Pets

Auntie Elaine and Uncle Jimmy have a lot of pets.  None of the pets make breakfast for them, but Flat Stanley had fun playing with them during their visit.

Henry the dog has a favorite stuffed toy.  His name is “Rocky the Racoon.”

Flat Stanley was sitting on the couch and Henry came running up with “Rocky” dangling from his little mouth.  He dropped the stuffed toy at Flat Stanley’s feet.

Then Henry waited a bit less than patiently for Flat Stanley to toss the toy, again and again.

This wore Henry out!  Henry needed a nap!

Papa and Auntie Elaine were laughing with Nana when Riley, their cat, curled up INSIDE Papa’s slippers!  He was too big to fit all of the way inside, but it was funny to watch him try!

It seemed to be nap time for all of the pets.  Uncle Jimmy and Papa then decided to join in on the Sleepytime Festival and went into Dreamland too.

Penny the cat wasn’t sleeping, but she wasn’t much fun either.  She turned away when Flat Stanley threw Rocky the Racoon.  She was not amused.

And then the fish didn’t want to play with Flat Stanley either.

Flat Stanley is good at finding his own fun as you know and this day was no exception!  He went for a little walk outside and found himself in the middle of a pink flamingo oasis!

Yehaadoodledeeeeee!!!! Flat Stanley hollered as he rode the wild beasts.  Yippeeekayayyyyyy up up and away!!

Flat Stanley has an imagination dreams are made of.  It keeps him smiling.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  Please subscribe and thank you for sharing Flat Stanley’s Adventures with your friends and family.

Springtime in Virginia with Flat Stanley

Flat Stanley woke up early.  He was anxious to go outside and explore the lake and yard around Auntie Elaine and Uncle Jimmy’s house.

“Come on Henry!!” Flat Stanley said to their dog and then he tried to whistle.  It wasn’t much of a whistle, but Henry caught his intention and ran by his side.

Henry ran across the grass ahead of Flat Stanley. He’d scuttle three steps ahead and then turn around to make sure Flat Stanley was following.

The water was so beautiful.

Flat Stanley went out on the dock to look for fish swimming below.  He didn’t see any fish, but two big ducks paddling their feet with a flutter, scuttled past.

He walked back up to the house and found springtime!! Nana is going to be so happy to see this!  He laid in the middle of the phlox flowers, rolling around and around, breathing in the scent of spring!

“Ahhhh springtime!!” he said as he exhaled.

He wanted to pick an Iris for Nana.  The flowers were in perfect bloom their petals blew softly in the spring breeze.  Flat Stanley decided the flowers were happier in the garden.

Uncle Jimmy lined the gardens with bowling balls!

Flat Stanley wanted to go bowling, you know he really had to; you know he did.

He picked up one of the heavy bowling balls.  He couldn’t quite lift it when he stuck his little fingers in the holes, so he got his hands underneath the heavy ball, and hefted it up. With a mighty push throw, he projected the heavy bowling ball forward on the grass.

That’s when Nana came out on the porch. She didn’t look very happy about Flat Stanley’s lawn bowling.

And then Flat Stanley’s last hefty finale came, but the ball went a little too far and went crashing against the rocks.

Flat Stanley clenched his teeth as the bowling ball careened and crashed down the rocky bed.

A loud voice screeched “SteeerrrIKE!!! From across the yard. Auntie Elaine had come out on the porch just in time to save the day.

It made Flat Stanley giggle and yes, even Nana, who stood shaking her head,  smiled and chuckled.

I hope this finds you smiling.  Subscribe today and Nana will send you a daily smile whenever a new flat Stanley adventure is posted.

Flat Stanley Travels to Virginia

Flat Stanley helped Nana pack up the last minute items and load them in the car, and then found his favorite seat in the cup holder.

“This is going to be a long day of driving, but tomorrow we will wake up next to a beautiful lake, overlooking the Potomac River.  Did you know that this is the river that George Washington crossed on Christmas night in 1776 during the Revolutionary War, before he became our first president?” Nana asked.

As they drove through Massachusetts there were still patches of snow on the ground and no signs of spring.

In Connecticut there was a lot of traffic on the highway, so Nana took the side roads for a while.  This is where we saw a beautiful park and playground.  Flat Stanley wished he could get out and slide down the slide just one time.  You know how much he loves to slide!

Nana was thrilled to see the daffodils and forsythia in full bloom!

No sliding today, just driving.  The trees are still bare and Papa said they looked like stick figure people.  Then he spoke of a poem yet to be written about the barren trees.

The next state we drove through was New York!  The traffic was awful, and it was feeling stuffy in the car, so Nana rolled her window down.  That was a big mistake!  Although the air was warmer as we were driving south, the fumes and pollution didn’t give us our much needed oxygen. Nana quickly rolled the window back up.

Every time we crossed a long bridge, Nana told Flat Stanley to hold his breath and make a wish.  She said that if we hold our breath for the entire bridge, that our wishes will come true.

Flat Stanley wished for lunch.

What would you wish for?

The skyline of New York City came into view as we crossed the George Washington bridge.  Do you  remember who George Washington was?

New Jersey has this really busy highway called a turnpike.  Flat Stanley was happy when Nana pulled into the service area for lunch!

“Wishes do come true!” Flat Stanley exclaimed.

Papa was very hungry and loved his Popeye’s spicy chicken!

After a quick lunch we headed back to join the “rat race” as Nana refers to the turnpike.

Nana was counting all of the states we were going through today, she was naming six.  Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington DC and finally, Virginia!! That’s a lot of states!

Flat Stanley looked up and saw the “Welcome to Delaware” sign.

“You forgot Delaware, Nana.  But it’s ok because you’re still right.  Washington DC isn’t technically a state, so it’s still six states we’ll pass through today.

Delaware went by very quickly!  It’s no wonder Nana forgot it.

We stopped at McDonald’s in Maryland.  Flat Stanley loves the chicken nuggets with BBQ sauce.  What’s your favorite thing at McDonald’s?

We watched the sunset from a VERY long bridge crossing the Potomac River.  Flat Stanley wished for this ride to end as he held his breath this time.  Then he saw the “Welcome to Virginia” sign! “Yeahhhhh!!  See, I told you wishes come true Flat Stanley said.

When we pulled into Auntie Elaine’s and Uncle Jimmy’s driveway, Flat Stanley was happy to be treated with so many kisses from their dog, Henry.

It tickled when he kept licking Flat Stanley’s ear.

Uncle Jimmy brought Flat Stanley’s favorite potato chips out, Sour Cream and Onion! Yum!

Uncle Jimmy is a silly man!  He made Flat Stanley laugh as he got ready for bed.  He was still smiling when his head hit the pillow.

I hope this finds you smiling too. Please subscribe so that Nana can send you an email when a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.
