Flat Stanley Goes to Boston

Flat Stanley had an exciting day with Nana and Papa today.  They piled in the car where Flat Stanley found his favorite seat in the cup holder and strapped himself in.

After about an hour on this bumpy road trip, they arrived at the Veterans Hospital in Boston.  Nana gave her keys to the nice man in what they call Valet.

Flat Stanley thought they were going to watch dancers in tights and slippers; but Nana explained that he was thinking of ballet dancers.  Valet, Nana explained, is where the kind men park your car for you.

Flat Stanley was thinking about what a fun job parking cars would be as Nana and Papa made their way to the elevator.  Flat Stanley pressed the number 7 button that Papa asked for, and then he continued pressing buttons as each rider got on and told him what floor that they were going to.

Hmmmm…maybe they could use an elevator operator he was thinking. That would be a fun job.

When they stepped off of the elevator, they stepped in the direction of the big sign that said Opthalmology.

“That’s a big word for eye doctor,” Nana said when she saw Flat Stanley’s brow krinkle in a questioning look.

As Nana and Papa waited in the waiting room, Flat Stanley enjoyed listening to the Veterans talk about their experience in the military.  He came to the conclusion that being a soldier seems like a very scary job!  He was happy to see all of these nice workers caring for them.

When they called Papa’s name, he followed the nurse back to a room.  Flat Stanley went with him for support.

They checked Papa’s eyes, and then Flat Stanley got a turn.

It was a big office with a lot of fancy machinery.

“NOW I’ve found the job that I really want when I grow up!” Flat Stanley announced happily; “An applemologist!!”

He made Nana and Papa smile through a very hard day.

I hope this finds you smiling too! Enjoy your day and please subscribe so Nana can send you another smile tomorrow, as she shares Flat Stanley’s Daily Adventures.

Flat Stanley and His Anniversary Surprise

Flat Stanley stepped down the stairs a little later than usual this morning.  Nana and Papa were already making coffee and eggs in the kitchen.

“Happy Anniversary, it seems like 50 years, not 22; but I hope I’m lucky enough to enjoy many more with you.” He overheard Papa telling Nana.

Flat Stanley’s face turned a little red and he slowed his steps, kind of embarrassed to come trotting in on “the moment.”

Nana was smiling and was giving a Papa a kiss when he turned the corner at the base of the stairs.  He turned into the bathroom rather quickly.  Ew.

He could still hear them talking about all that they’ve been through with each other over the past 22 years, with the kids, grandkids, different homes and travel they enjoyed.

When he went into the living room he looked at the pictures on the walls that showed Nana and Papa when they were younger.

Later in the day, he was talking to Auntie Terri.

“So, what should we do for their anniversary?” Flat Stanley asked.

“Well cupcakes would be nice, but Papa is diabetic, so maybe flowers would be better.”

They decided they’d go look for some pretty flowers later.  While they sat in their quiet thoughts, Flat Stanley had to ask.

“Auntie Terri, why would anyone want to get married?  I’m never getting married.  Yuck.”

“Well,” Auntie Terri replied with a bit of hesitation on how to answer this one.  “There are different kinds of love.  You know how  you love Alexa and Briana as besties, and you love Nana and Papa because they are kind, loving people and me…” she said as she she squeezed his side, “When you’re older, things will look differently to you.”

Flat Stanley giggled a silly kind of bashful laugh over a conversation about love in it’s many forms.

“Can we go to the store now, Auntie Terri?” Flat Stanley asked.

They went to the store and found a nice assortment of beautiful flowers on this gorgeous spring day.  They had a hard time choosing.

“Yellow and purple grow nicely together,” Terri said. These are beautiful and Nana will enjoy planting them in the garden with you and Briana.

Flat Stanley agreed and they went home to surprise Nana and Papa.

Nana and Papa were just finishing up their dinner when Flat Stanley surprised them with a picture he drew.  He loves to draw.  It was a picture of Nana and Papa.

“Happy Anniversary” He cried out as he came in with his work of art made just for them!

Terri and Briana came over to give them hugs and Nana and Papa loved the flowers they chose, but loved their smiles most of all.

“This is love…” Flat Stanley said with a smile.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  Enjoy a beautiful day and Subscribe, so that Nana can send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.  Thanks for sharing the smiles with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley Rides to the Wild West

Today is a very special day at Alexa’s elementary school.  Alexa and Flat Stanley were excited about the “Shake Your Tail Feathers” dance!

Alexa dressed in her flannel shirt, jeans and boots, before coming downstairs to pack her lunch.  Papa is still amazed at how grown up Alexa is, that she can make her own lunch for school.

“Did you know that I used to wear my hair in two braids like this everyday through elementary school?” Nana geezed as she braided Alexa’s hair in two pigtails.

Alexa was dolled up just like a little cowgirl!

“Round up and saddle up!” Papa said when it was time to go.

Flat Stanley grabbed his hat and galloped to the car.

Because this was such a special day, Nana and Papa stopped at McDonald’s before school today.

Although Alexa’s smile didn’t show it, she said she found the worst thing to order at McDonald’s! She did not like the pancakes on the McGriddle!

“Mom makes much better bacon!” Alexa said as she sipped her juice.”

“Now it’s time for a hootinanny!” Flat Stanley shouted as they finished their meal.

Nana was really excited about meeting Alexa’s first grade teacher Mrs. Wenzel.  She was so sad when she found out that she wouldn’t be at the party.

“I hope everything is ok and that she’ll be back to school soon” Nana told the nice lady in the office.

Flat Stanley was also looking forward to seeing Mrs. Wenzel again, and he was sad that she couldn’t be there on this special day as well.

They heard the big speakers in the gym calling everyone to a big circle! Six classrooms of first graders filed in and found their places!

The gym was decorated in a wild west theme with their artwork displayed on the walls.

Flat Stanley pretended he was Sheriff John Brown.  He put the hat with the fancy star on his head and went on his way to find the bad guys.

The wild west can be a very dangerous place.

Nana was so excited when they started off with the chicken dance! Flat Stanley was flapping his wings and clucking like a chicken around the center of the gym.

Then Alexa grabbed Flat Stanley for the Disco limbo, where they leaned way back and tried not to touch the pole.

Flat Stanley liked line dancing!

But Flat Stanley’s favorite dance was the Macarena!

This “Shake Your Tail Feathers” dance was so much fun it made Flat Stanley tired!  He decided to sit with Papa and watch the kids do the hokey pokey.

But, when the kids put their whole selves in, Flat Stanley had to join in and shake it all about!

What a fun party!  Flat Stanley was smiling his big beautiful smile.  He really enjoyed dancing with all of his friends in Mrs. Wenzel’s class again!

I hope this finds you smiling too! Thank you for subscribing and sharing Flat Stanley’s daily adventure blog with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley Shares Thai Food with Alexa

Nana and Papa woke up with twinkling taste buds.  They were in the mood for Thai food and couldn’t wait to visit Thai Town near Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Alexa tried the coconut soup, tom kha ga, but it wasn’t her favorite.  She gave it to her grandma Christa, and she loved it!

Alexa and Flat Stanley shared the Chicken on a stick, called Satay.  They both loved the creamy peanutty sauce!

“This is the BEST Asian food ever!” Alexa said.  She’s definitely Nana and Papa’s grandlove!  They feel the same way.

When Nana went to pay the bill, she found Flat Stanley had snuck away from the table and climbed up on the lovely buddhist display to dance with the pretty karashina doll!

Flat Stanley’s feet were moving to the funky beat pulsing with his heart. “Yaba baba bay bay, Saba Saba nay nay!” He danced as he chanted and grooved in his groovy way. Until…

“Flat Stanley! What did you get into today?” Nana exclaimed in her not so nice tone.

Nana was helping Flat Stanley down from the special display and brought him back to the table where Alexa was just finishing the last sip of her pink lemonade.  She sucked on the straw and made loud gurgling sounds in the bottom of the cup.

The nice lady at the restaurant had a pretty smile and brought Papa the hot hot hot peppers he asked for and has to have whenever we visit Thai Town!

After everyone was very full and very happy, we decided it was time to go shopping!

Nana saw the “little cuties” tangerine display and just had to have a picture of her “little cuties” in front of the store display.

Nana placed Flat Stanley safely in Grandma Christa’s care. Flat Stanley enjoyed the motorized cart.

As Nana turned down isle fourteen, to pick up some baking powder for her peanut butter cookies; around the corner flies Grandma Christa and Flat Stanley.

“Bbbbrrrmmmmmmm, bbbbrrrmmmmmmm” Flat Stanley hummed with the cart as they flew past Nana in the isle.

There was little Nana could do.

I just shook my head and finished up with my shopping.

We all met up at the check out with big smiles!  Alexa had a few crafts in the cart.  Nana’s been trying to get the grandloves to enjoy baseball with her, but sometimes a distraction works best.

We hope you enjoyed this distraction of smiles today!  Thanks for subscribing and sharing the smiles Nana and Flat Stanley bring!
