Flat Stanley Works his body to get Healthy!

Today Flat Stanley spent the day with friends helping them and himself to get, and stay, healthy.

“Gotta get that heart rate pumpin’, come on girls!” Flat Stanley prodded.

Sweatin’ to the oldies with Richard Simmons!  This is a fun video that gets your body moving!  You’ve got to move and groove and swing and sway.  It’s a little different than Gene Simmons that paints his face and rides that “Rock and Roll Train.” All of the Simmons’ just like to have fun it seems!

The girls were quick to join in!

Emilee and Devin were rockin’ it from swoooosh, and rollin’ it to swaaaang! Then they jump, jump, JUMP! Do you like to exercise?

Exercise keeps your muscles strong, your blood pumping keeps everything working better in your body and dancing just makes you feel good!  What’s not to love?

Alissa wanted to join in on the fun!  Shake-a-Shake a-Boom-Shake-Shake-BOOM!

Whew, Flat Stanley found the fan to cool off as this summer heat was slowing him down a little bit.  But then he was back at it!

“Boom baby, rock it to the right, shake it baby, to the left and shake it all right.”

“Step, step step and a hop hop hop, find your squat and shoot up like a POP!”

Richard Simmons has a higher voice than Flat Stanley when he gets going on his exercise routine.  Flat Stanley enjoyed rockin’ to the oldies with him on TV.  Next time will you dance with me?

After a great workout, you need to stay hydrated, so drink a lot of water and join in with the smiles!  I hope this finds you healthy and smiling back at Flat Stanley!  Enjoy your day and thank you for sharing Flat Stanley with your friends and family.

Flat Stanley Pumps Gas!

Flat Stanley and Nana entered the shopping center and Nana noticed her gas tank was getting low.

“Tomorrow we go to Boston, so we’d better gas up a bit here Flat Stanley,” Nana stated as she pulled up to the pump.

“I’ll help you Nana,” Flat Stanley said as he unstrapped his seatbelt and jumped out to help.

Flat Stanley was a big help and topped the tank off nicely.

“Can I clean your windows for you ma’am?” Flat Stanley chided in a joking way, but Nana took him up on the task and let him wash her windshield.

Flat Stanley dunked the squeegee sponge into the soapy water and washed all of the spring bugs that didn’t move out of Nana’s way, off of the windshield.  There were a lot of bugs!  When it was shiny clean, Flat Stanley got back in the car and they were off for more errands.

They picked up Papa’s mom, yes; Grandma T was treating us all to lunch today for an anniversary treat!  What a beautiful day.

This was followed by more card stores and shopping and then more shopping.  Flat Stanley loves how spry and lively Grandma T can hop and shuffle through the isles.

Flat Stanley didn’t have to hop and shuffle.  He found a driving cart and hopped on it!

Flat Stanley is quite the driver.  He was zoom zoom zooming around the store.

Flat Stanley got really excited in the bakery section.  He rode ahead and hid in the cupcakes.  When Nana walked past he did this “PPPSSSTTTTTTT…psssst.. hey… you know you want it…” sing song that made Nana laugh, but she shook her head and said no.

“But they have SPRINKLES!” Flat Stanley continued.

Nana really really wanted to, but she is trying to eat less sweets, so although she wanted to, although she had to, she didn’t.  She stayed strong.

Instead, she found the fruits and veggies and stocked up on fresh strawberries.  These are Papa’s favorite, so she smiled as she put them in her cart for him.

Flat Stanley loved the brightly colored sweet bell peppers and Nana was quick to say “YES!” to these.

When they entered the dairy section, Grandma T found some jalapeno cheese sticks and snuck them in her basket for Nana and Papa.  She knows how they love spicy treats.  It was very nice of her, and although Nana saw her do it and KNEW who they were for, she didn’t stop her, she just smiled a big smile as she raised her eyebrows in welcomed surprise.

Nana put a carton of what looked like milk in the cart, but when Flat Stanley looked closer he saw it said Almond Milk.

“How do they milk an almond,” Flat Stanley asked Nana.  She just laughed and laughed.  It’s been a great week of laughter for Nana.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  How do they milk an almond? .. still giggling.

Enjoy your day!!

Flat Stanley Shares Thai Food with Alexa

Nana and Papa woke up with twinkling taste buds.  They were in the mood for Thai food and couldn’t wait to visit Thai Town near Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Alexa tried the coconut soup, tom kha ga, but it wasn’t her favorite.  She gave it to her grandma Christa, and she loved it!

Alexa and Flat Stanley shared the Chicken on a stick, called Satay.  They both loved the creamy peanutty sauce!

“This is the BEST Asian food ever!” Alexa said.  She’s definitely Nana and Papa’s grandlove!  They feel the same way.

When Nana went to pay the bill, she found Flat Stanley had snuck away from the table and climbed up on the lovely buddhist display to dance with the pretty karashina doll!

Flat Stanley’s feet were moving to the funky beat pulsing with his heart. “Yaba baba bay bay, Saba Saba nay nay!” He danced as he chanted and grooved in his groovy way. Until…

“Flat Stanley! What did you get into today?” Nana exclaimed in her not so nice tone.

Nana was helping Flat Stanley down from the special display and brought him back to the table where Alexa was just finishing the last sip of her pink lemonade.  She sucked on the straw and made loud gurgling sounds in the bottom of the cup.

The nice lady at the restaurant had a pretty smile and brought Papa the hot hot hot peppers he asked for and has to have whenever we visit Thai Town!

After everyone was very full and very happy, we decided it was time to go shopping!

Nana saw the “little cuties” tangerine display and just had to have a picture of her “little cuties” in front of the store display.

Nana placed Flat Stanley safely in Grandma Christa’s care. Flat Stanley enjoyed the motorized cart.

As Nana turned down isle fourteen, to pick up some baking powder for her peanut butter cookies; around the corner flies Grandma Christa and Flat Stanley.

“Bbbbrrrmmmmmmm, bbbbrrrmmmmmmm” Flat Stanley hummed with the cart as they flew past Nana in the isle.

There was little Nana could do.

I just shook my head and finished up with my shopping.

We all met up at the check out with big smiles!  Alexa had a few crafts in the cart.  Nana’s been trying to get the grandloves to enjoy baseball with her, but sometimes a distraction works best.

We hope you enjoyed this distraction of smiles today!  Thanks for subscribing and sharing the smiles Nana and Flat Stanley bring!

Flat Stanley is Ready for Travel Again!

Last night Nana, Papa and Flat Stanley had our bon voyage dinner with Auntie Terri & Briana.  Tomorrow is our day of travel!  Stay tuned for lots of travel pics, but tomorrow the adventure will be delayed by a day.

Briana dressed Flat Stanley up really nice.  She said she’d like to give him a makeover for their “bon voyage date.”  He seemed to enjoy wearing different clothes than the ones Nana always sets out for him.

“I’m the king of polka dots,” Flat Stanley said.  Then he began dancing the polka like they do in Poland.

Nana got up early this morning to finish up the last minute details in the house, getting ready for their trip!  Flat Stanley helped gather and clean the eggs that she’s hoping to share with the family.  That’s a LOT of eggs and Flat Stanley cleaned them “eggcellently!”

The bags were packed and Flat Stanley helped Nana carry them down the stairs.

But Flat Stanley’s favorite last minute task was definitely watering the plants!  He pretended he was a monkey in the mighty jungle of Borneo.  He had to swing high and wide to escape the wild leopards.  Flat Stanley has a wild imagination.

What do you like to pretend to be in a jungle?

We hope the jungle finds you smiling!  Enjoy your day!

Wild Morning for Flat Stanley

Flat Stanley had a pretty wild morning today.  Nana and Papa were still upstairs, but Flat Stanley heard the working crew building next door, so he went out to see if they needed any help.

Boy did they!  They had all the wooden pieces they call “forms” up where the basement of Nana and Papa’s new home will be.  Then they had not just one but TWO cement trucks pouring cement into the “forms” to create the concrete basement walls.

The concrete crew is very nice. They were thankful to have Flat Stanley’s help.  But after some very tiring labor, Flat Stanley was ready for some fun!  You know how Flat Stanley loves to have fun.

There were a lot of slanted boards placed here and there to hold the “forms” in place.  Flat Stanley liked to use them as slides.  Then the workermen would help him back up to the top of the wall and dowwwwwn he’d slide again.

After the concrete set up and dried.  Flat Stanley helped the crew remove the “forms” and there all by itself stood the walls for Nana and Papa’s new basement.  VIOLA!!

They had all the tools loaded and were washing down the concrete slide, er, I mean ramp.  Uncle Jimmy used to do this work and said that the ramp can get REALLY heavy to clean and disassemble if you don’t get to it quick enough and the concrete starts to harden.

But the man Flat Stanley just referred to as “Santa” let Flat Stanley help him get it taken apart and loaded on the big truck.

But then we had a problem.  With all of the rain we’ve been having in Massachusetts, the big truck all loaded down with the supplies, got stuck!  It was stuck across the driveway!

“Flat Stanley to the Rescuuuuue” he shouted as he ran over to help get the truck out of the muddy muck.

He huffed, puffed and pushed, but, the truck was too big for him to push.  The truck was sitting diagonally across the driveway when ANOTHER truck came to fill Nana and Papa’s oil tank.  Oh is this a crazy day!  Thankfully, there’s another driveway on the other side of the yard, so Flat Stanley ran over to guide the oil truck driver in.

A lot of homes use oil to heat their homes in Massachusetts.  This man helps keep people warm in the winter…and this year, warm in the springtime.  Do you see that snow on the ground?!  Yes, it IS snowing on April 19th!

After the oil was filled, Flat Stanley went back to help the driver of the big equipment truck out of the mud.  He layed some of the diagonal boards under the tires to give them traction and OFF they went to the next job!

Flat Stanley saved the day!  He was excited to run inside and tell Nana and Papa all about his morning adventures.  Nana and Papa were smiling at the retelling of his huffing and puffing to get the truck out of the muck.

I hope this finds you smiling too!  If so, please subscribe, so Nana can send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted!

Flat Stanley Drives the Crane

The morning started out about as well as the week had been going for Flat Stanley and Nana, not well.

Flat Stanley and Nana went out together to collect the eggs from the chicken coop and give them food and water.

In Massachusetts, it’s been raining for days and the ground was very soft.  The rains did a number on the mountains of dirt around the chicken coop.  When Flat Stanley hit a mound of soft dirt, he felt his feet sinking and then felt his wet ankles.

I pulled Flat Stanley from the depths of the mud.

But while I was getting Flat Stanley out of the mud, I began to sink.  My shoes were completely buried and it was rising up around my own ankles.  When I tried to pull my foot out of the muddy gunk, the muddy gunk took my shoe!  My muddy sock covered foot tried to find the opening of the shoe through the gunky mud.

Gross, but I finally found my shoe, and forced my muddy sock inside.  I was struggling to pull my shoed foot out of the mud sucking muck!

Flat Stanley heard the big truck coming to the rescue!  A CRANE!  Flat Stanley began shouting, “Help, Nana needs help over here!”

The crane operator jumped down and helped Nana out of the mucky mud without the big machinery.  Nana’s face turned a little red in embarrassment, and thanked the kind workerman.

After gathering the eggs, and providing the food and water to the chickens, (thankfully, I didn’t spill all of the water while sinking in the mud); I made my muddy way back to the house and removed my shoes outside.

I made my way upstairs to change…this was not a good start to my morning.

Flat Stanley was feeling much better!  His lip is healing nicely after his fall yesterday, and he loves all the applesauce and ice cream treats that Papa sneaks to him, to help him feel better.

He ran back out, steering clear of the muddy hills; to see the workermen.

Today they were putting up the frames for the basement walls.  The big strong workermen carried the big boards down into the muddy pit that will one day be Nana and Papa’s new house, and made frames for cement walls.

The crane helped to stand everything up straight.  Flat Stanley ran to the big crane driver, thinking up a silly name on his way. “Hey, Trucker Travis, can I have a ride?”

“Trucker Travis” got a big smile on his face.  Flat Stanley brings a smile to everyone’s face!  He hefted Flat Stanley up into the cab and then backed the big crane up closer to the building worksite.

“BEEEP, BBBBEEEEEEEPP, BBBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEP,” Flat Stanley chimed in with the sound of the truck backing up.

Flat Stanley was shaking as “Trucker Travis” jumped out of the super high cab of the truck.  “Thank you, Thank you so so very much!” Flat Stanley said.  He was having a MUCH better day now!

And then, yes then, things got even BETTER!

Foreman Frank came over, you remember Foreman Frank, the one with the strong toolbelt?  Well he asked Flat Stanley if he wanted to climb up to the deck of the ACTUAL Crane with him!

“Me? Way up there?” Flat Stanley exclaimed with excitement laden with a bit of fear.

Would you go up there?

Excitement won out and Foreman Frank led him safely up Onto the BIG Crane platform!

He was up so high in the sky!  Do you see the telephone wires behind him? Yeah, he was THAT high!

He looked down on Nana and Papa’s new house from way up high and shouted at the workermen below.  “Hi Guys, Look at me!  Hi Guys!!!”

“Groovy Greg” was working today and looked up at Flat Stanley waving back.  With the sound of the big truck Flat Stanley couldn’t hear him shout, “You look cool up there dude!!”

It didn’t matter what was being said, Flat Stanley was grinning from ear to ear and it wasn’t hurting his lip at ALL!

Flat Stanley Joins the Concrete Crew

Flat Stanley could hear the workermen outside, and when he peeked out the window, he saw a few guys lifting heavy boards out of the truck and forming the foundation of Nana and Papa’s new home.

The foreman saw Flat Stanley running towards him.  He was a bit short on his crew today, so the foreman just came out and asked him, “Flat Stanley, you look like an able young man, would you like to join our crew for the day?”

Flat Stanley’s chest puffed up a bit (as much as it could being flat and all), but he stood up straight and tall and said, “Yes, Sir!”

Foreman Frank asked Flat Stanley to work with his own son, to help him move the boards and get them in the big ditch.

He struggled a bit, but he really worked hard with his crewmates.  They placed the boards in framed squares, where the concrete would be poured.

After the boards were layed out in the exact measurements and formation of the future house, it was time for concrete!

“Ohhh boy oh boy!!” Flat Stanley said, as he was asked to help the driver get the truck placed just right so that the concrete would come out of the mighty rolling machine and set to pour into the little frames.  Then he got to FLIP the lever and ggggguuuussssshhhhhh, out came the heavy concrete pouring down the ramp.

Flat Stanley had an idea about the ramp!  It looked like a fun ramp, like a slide!  You know he wanted to, you know he had to; you know he did.

He came down the ramp singing.. “ohhh oohhhh the landslide brought him down…down…”

The concrete crew actually enjoyed Flat Stanley’s silliness and helped him up.  Then they put a trowel in his hand.  That’s the thing they use to smooth out the concrete.

The concrete was then leveled out nice and flat with perfect grooves down the middle.

This is when Flat Stanley got another crazy idea!  He could see the concrete begin to harden, and decided his foot prints would make really pretty tracks in the not yet hard stone.  Then they’d be there forever once they harden!

He begged and he begged Greg.  He was one of the workermen who seemed really nice. “Please, Greg, pleeeeease will you help me leave my footprints in the concrete.” Greg was feeling kind of groovy and actually let Flat Stanley leave his footprints permanently in the foundation of Nana and Papa’s new home!

“Woooo hooooo,” Flat Stanley shouted, “thank you ‘groovy’ Greg!”

After a long days work, Nana came out with her shout, “oohh it’s time for DIIINNNNNNNAAAAHHHHH”

The foreman thanked Flat Stanley for a hard days work. He told him that a check would be arriving and that if he ever needed a job, that his future was as secure as his toolbelt!

Flat Stanley was beaming! Even after a hard days work that left him exhausted, he was smiling.  I hope you’re smiling too.  Oh, there goes Nana again, “OOohhh it’s time for DIIIIIINNNNNnAAAAHHhhhh…” and into the house he ran.

I hope Flat Stanley and the concrete crew brought a smile to your face, as they did mine today.  This one was a lot of fun to put together, the concrete crew was a lot of fun and they LOVED Flat Stanley!  If you subscribe, Nana will send you an email every time a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.  I know you can use a daily smile, everyone can these days.

Flat Stanley Goes Shopping

Grocery shopping is never a fun task, unless of course Flat Stanley comes along!

Nana always starts off in the produce section.  She loves her fresh fruit.  Flat Stanley loves fresh fruit too!  His favorite as you know is cantaloupe, so Nana bought a nice ripe one.

What’s your favorite Fruit?

While Nana was picking out some fresh herbs and getting carrots, Flat Stanley climbed up on the pineapple bin and began singing in a high pitched wail:

“Pineapple princess, he calls me pineapple princess all day, as he plays his ukulele on the hill above the bay.  Pineapple princess, I love you, you’re the sweetest girl I’ve seen.  Some day we’re gonna marry and you’ll be my pineapple queen.”

Nana didn’t even flinch.  She’s getting used to his silly ways.  She actually just continued shopping, shaking her head.  Other shoppers seemed to enjoy his singing, so he continued on.

Nana was three isles up when Flat Stanley thought of a trick.  He went up the next isle where Nana was heading, where the cereals were, he squeezed his body in tight next to Nana’s favorite.

When Nana came upon the cereal isle she was wondering where Flat Stanley had gone off to and was just about to turn around to go find him when she spotted her favorite cereal box.  She reached up to grab it and out popped Flat Stanley, making her shout in surprise!

“Flat Stanley!!  You got me!”  He’s so good at hiding in tight spaces.

Nana continued on and stocked up on milk and bread for the family.

As they were checking out and Nana was putting her groceries on the conveyor belt, Flat Stanley jumped onto the candy shelf.

“Pleeeeeease Nana, pleeease can I have one, just one?!” Flat Stanley asked in his voice that’s sweeter than candy.

Nana couldn’t resist his sweet voice. “Yes, you can have a candy bar,” she said.

Which candy bar do you think Flat Stanley selected?

Which one is your favorite?

Papa’s favorite is an Almond Joy, Nana’s is a Kit Kat, but Flat Stanley chose the M&M’s.  He likes the one’s without the nuts, because he’s quite nutty enough.

Flat Stanley left the store smiling with his bag of M&M’s in his hand.

I hope this finds you smiling too!

Enjoy your day and please subscribe so Nana can send an email when a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted.

Flat Stanley Goes to Colorado

Flat Stanley had a really boring day yesterday. Nana and Papa were buried neck deep in paperwork (not really, but they were really busy with stacks of papers all around them).  They were doing what they called taxes and had no time to play or go anywhere.

Nana and Papa’s friend Shinae called and asked if Flat Stanley would like to go to Colorado with her.

“Flat Stanley, would you like to go to Colorado with Shinae tomorrow?” Nana asked.

“Shinae? The lady with the crazy laugh and funny dance?”  Flat Stanley asked.

Nana giggled at Flat Stanley’s description.

“I’d love to see Colorado! But where is Colorado?” Flat Stanley asked. Shoot at this point if someone asked him to go to the dump he would have jumped up for joy!  He was so bored!

Nana Showed Flat Stanley Colorado on a map.  Can you find the little state of Massachusetts?  That’s a long way to travel!

Shinae was excited to spend some time with Flat Stanley and Flat Stanley was thrilled!  She bought his ticket and they were all set to travel!  See his name?

Flat Stanley loves to ride on the airplane.

Looking DOWN on clouds is really fun!  The sun was setting and going to sleep, right into the clouds.  Flat Stanley was glad when the sun went down, because it was kind of hurting his eyes.  The sunset hues on the horizon were really pretty after the sun set.

When they landed, it was really late.  Flat Stanley looked up at a clock and saw that it said 9:30PM in the airport in Colorado.  Flat Stanley looked at his watch and it said 11:30PM.

“Shinae, I think the clocks are wrong here,” Flat Stanley said.

“Shinae laughed her crazy laugh and explained that as you travel east and west, that the time changes.  There’s eastern standard time, pacific standard time and Colorado is in the Mountain Time Zone in the middle of the country.

“There are a lot of mountains here! When we were flying over them and coming in for a landing, I thought we were going to pop the top right off one of the mountains.” Flat Stanley exclaimed.

This is going to be a fun time, Flat Stanley does keep you smiling, Shinae was thinking.  She held Flat Stanley’s hand to keep him close through the busy airport.  They picked up their bags from the carousel and Flat Stanley went to hop on for a ride.  It goes round and round like a merry go round!  Shinae was quick to keep him safely by her side.

After a great night’s sleep in the hotel, Shinae woke up really early and asked Flat Stanley if he wanted to go hiking with her.

“Can we wait for the sun to come up before we go?” Flat Stanley asked.

“We’ll go down for breakfast first and then the sun will come up before we go out.” Shinae replied.

Flat Stanley was tired from the flight but the thought of orange juice and pancakes got him up.

After he had his breakfast his muscles and body were awake and he was ready to HIKE!  Flat Stanley brought his knees up as high as he could, one and then the other to work out the sleepy kinks and get ready for his hike!

They drove to what they call the Paint Mines.  The colorful clay formations look like a monster giant took a paintbrush and created a beautiful piece of art.

Shinae is a fast walker!  Flat Stanley’s little legs struggled to keep up with her, but she was determined to go the full 2 miles.  As they were walking along the brightly colored, clayish rocks, in shades of yellow, red, grey, and white, Shinae told him the story about how Native Americans used to mine for pigments and supplies for making pottery on these very grounds.  Flat Stanley was picturing himself with a mining pick in hand.

Flat Stanley was tired after their hike and enjoyed the ride in the car.

“Next we’re going to Seven Falls!” Shinae told Flat Stanley.  “It’s a place where seven waterfalls cascade down mountain cliffs.”

Flat Stanley was so giddy, he loves the sound of waterfalls crashing down the mountains.  When they parked the car, Shinae took him from his trusted cup holder seat and he ran to the base of the stairs.

The stairs were so steep and tall and there were 224 steps to the top!

“Do you think you can do this Flat Stanley?” Shinae asked.

Like the little engine that could, Flat Stanley replied, “I think I can, I think I can…” and they began to climb.  Flat Stanley was counting each and every step as they climbed.  When they got to 145 steps he had to stop for a rest on the platform.

Shinae wasn’t even out of breath!  She must do this hiking thing a lot!  She was being silly while Flat Stanley was resting.  She started in on her silly dance routine.  With her arms straightened she moved her hips from one side to the other and forward and backwards through her arms.  Flat Stanley was giggling at Shinae.  She is fun!

Then they started to climb once again.

“I think I can, I think I can…” Flat Stanley grunted out in a tired and slower drawl.  It sounded like Flat Stanley’s motor may be stalling out, but he kept climbing.

“Flat Stanley you MADE IT!!!!” Shinae was so happy for him.

The view of the waterfalls from up high above them was absolutely beautiful!  His little legs were tired and wobbly, but Flat Stanley’s smile was bright and beautiful.

I hope you’re smiling too!  Now Nana has the tune that will play through her head all day today. “I think I can, I think I can…”

Enjoy your day and keep smiling!  If you subscribe, Nana will send you an email whenever a new Flat Stanley Adventure is posted!
