Flat Stanley Shows Kindness

Nana woke up not feeling well today.  Flat Stanley could see she was pretty miserable when she finished her first cup of coffee and that didn’t bring about her usual smile.

She took some cold medicine and layed on the couch with a lozenge in her mouth to sooth her sore throat.

Flat Stanley rummaged through the kitchen until he found a nice blend of ginger and green teas that he knew she would enjoy.  He put the cup of water in the microwave and waited for it to steam.  After steeping the teabags for a few minutes, he brought Nana a nice cup of hot tea.

“Oh, Flat Stanley, you didn’t have to do that, but I’m so glad you did.  The steam will really help my sore throat,” Nana said.

As Nana sipped on her hot tea, she began to let her mind wander…do you learn kindness or are you born either being kind or not so kind.  All of us have kindness within us, but some of us let that kindness shine more often.

What brought about these thoughts was a book written by a new friend  Rhonda Paglia.  It’s called “The Kindness Kids Project.”

Flat Stanley and Nana were reading the book together yesterday, and really enjoyed the creative ways the kids expressed how they show kindness in so many ways.

How do you show kindness?

This is a really nice book that is full of art and examples of how kid’s show kindness in their own special ways.

“Kids really do want to make this world a better place,” Flat Stanley said.  He loved looking at the beautiful pictures and descriptions on how each kid shows kindness.  It gave him some great ideas.

Nana is going to visit her grandloves soon and plans to have the kids draw pictures and write about how they show kindness.  It will be a fun thing to do together.

Are you a kindness kid?  Do you help protect the earth.  Some kids talked about recycling, picking up trash others had thrown on the ground and remembering to turn off the lights when not in use.

I hope you are thinking about ways to show kindness.  This makes Nana smile, even when she’s not feeling well.

I hope you’re smiling too!  If you’re interested in getting your own copy of The Kindness Kids Project book, you can ORDER it from Amazon.

Have a beautiful day and spread the love through kindness.  Our world needs more kindness kids!

Flat Stanley & Briana Made Nana Cry

Auntie Terri and Briana brought Flat Stanley to the store with them.  Auntie Terri made Flat Stanley promise that he was going to stay right with her and not run off or go for rides on the riding wheelchairs at the entrance as he wanted so badly to do.

“Next time, when we come with Nana & Papa, we will.” Briana whispered to Flat Stanley.  This made Flat Stanley smile as he pictured himself and Briana racing down the isles in the riding carts!

They shopped and shopped and had fun together, and then they spotted the perfect gift.  A beautiful pillow to sit on Nana’s easy chair that said “NANA You’re the Best” on it.  Flat Stanley looked at Briana and said “we gotta get it!” Briana and Flat Stanley have been saving dollar bills all month.  Sometimes, they’ll get a few dollars for helping with Nana’s chores or doing work outside on the farm.  Briana agreed, they just had to buy it.

Nana was sitting in her easy chair when they returned from shopping.  The kids ran next door as quickly as their little legs would carry them, and gave Nana the gift they bought for her.

Tears of joy instantly sprang to Nana’s eyes as she hugged the fluffy, soft pillow to her chest!  Briana and Flat Stanley looked at each other with wide eyed amazement, is she ok, they were thinking.

Nana jumped out of her easy chair and came in for big hugs for both of them.  It was such a thoughtful and beautiful gift.  The pillow even had a warm scent, it smelled like the lotion that Briana wears.

“Oh honey, it even smells really good, just like you!” Nana said to Briana.  This is when Briana and Flat Stanley both knew that Nana was just fine.  They had just grabbed Nana in the “feels of her heart,” and that’s what brought tears to her eyes.  This is love…in it’s greatest form.

When I went into the kitchen later in the afternoon, Briana gave me a book she had written.  “This is really my lucky day!” first a beautiful new Nana pillow and now a one of the kind book with original artistry!  This day couldn’t get any better!

Nana loves the joy Briana finds in writing stories and bringing characters to life!  She’s got talent!

Briana was looking at Nana’s refrigerator showing all of the artistic talent from all of her grandloves and asked Nana if she could re-arrange them.

“And this day DID get better!” I said after seeing the beauty of Briana’s new arrangement display.  Flat Stanley had jumped into the mix and became a centerpiece within all of the amazing artwork.

Each little piece of art holds a special place in Nana’s heart.
